I applied to Pratt on a whim, not really expecting to get in. I submitted a short story for the portfolio that I had recycled from another college submission. The essay was written in a half hour before I clicked "apply". They got back to me incredibly fast and gave me a massive scholarship.

I made a 20 piece art portfolio. Even though I am going for animation, Pratt and most other colleges don't like cartoons. Most won't even look at them. I also wrote an essay (a tiny one compared to otehr High School projects), and got a good number on the SAT's (I don't even remember what I got...see how much that really matters in the end?)

I submitted a portfolio and an essay. But you don't have to work hard to get in. I know people here who don't like to draw who got in from whipping a makeshift portfolio together in a month. Sadly, these people graduate too.
